Even as an older woman, I deeply enjoyed this novel. The author did a great job of bringing me into the struggles of the protagonist, Maggie. So much so, that at times things seemed so hopeless for Maggie that I found myself wishing I could rescue her from her crazy life!Unexpectedly, I found myself relating better to my own teenaged daughter, as Reni, with unabashed vulnerability, really helped me think back to my own teenage years so vividly. Many, many times I saw my younger self in the pages of this book, and I imagine I’m not in the minority.I hope that all women, especially the young ones, who read this take the overarching message of hope to heart. Even apart from that there is much wisdom to be gleaned, such as not ignoring warning signs of dangerous people, which Maggie does quite a bit (and haven’t we all?).I thoroughly enjoyed Reni’s style of storytelling, as she does a masterful job of giving just the right amount of information and in the right ways. Her delivery is very well executed on stressful situations and she describes deep emotions so poignantly. Her descriptions of settings, characters and situations is beautifully poetic.I laughed, I cried, I was on the edge of my seat, then I laughed again - at myself for being so wrapped up in this teenaged girl’s life. I had to force myself to put this book down to cook dinner and attend to my own real life. I absolutely loved this novel and can’t wait for the sequel!
