This is a bad book. Although my family did spend a hilarious hour reading each other excerpts and showing around the pictures, it is unfortunately not really bad enough to achieve cult status like "revenge of the killer tomatoes". To be fair, I bought it in error as it is predominantly aimed at "housewives and homemakers." The extremely simplistic approach may therefore possibly be appropriate, but nothing can excuse the numerous errors of style and taste. This is a book for people who would think that replacing a single pendant lamp in the centre of a room with a flourescent fitting would be an improvement because it gave more light. Although published in 1994, many of the photographs appear to have been taken in the early 1980's and show fittings that are no longer available, not to say badly dated. Finally, the book is deeply unadventurous: it rarely strays beyond classically styled table and standard lamps or recessed downlighters. There are numerous better books on lighting, so don't buy this one.
