Maybe it is just me, but this could well be the saddest, yet most beautiful cd I have ever heard.The last 4 songs in particular are very difficult, yet rewarding listening.The backing music is sparse and appropriate.Newbury's once strong voice is reduced to a rattling whisper. The lyrics to many of the songs make it clear that Mr Newbury knew his time was short.Yet these are not "pity me" type songs, just beautifully sad,such as only Mickey Newbury could write.Mickey Newbury is certainly one of the most under appreciated songwriters who ever lived.The songs on this cd are no exception.
