This touching tale is the true story of Father William Wasson (Jason Miller), an American Roman Catholic priest who founds a home for orphan boys in his poor parish in Mexico. While freeing a child, Julio, from jail who had stolen from the poor box, Father Wasson becomes aware of the plight of the country's orphans. He goes to the Bishop and asks permission to open a refuge for the boys. The Bishop agrees, and arranges for the use of an old brewery warehouse with the wealthy widow Elena. Soon, word of the home spreads and orphans come from miles away. The Father goes to the United States to seek benefactors, and finds his "miracle" in a wealthy businessman. The home thrives, and the priest and Elena decide to take in girls also, asking of them the same that they ask of the boys: work together and help each other, and donate a year of service to the home after they have left. The benefits of the priest's benevolence come to the fore years later when Julio, the little boy who had stolen from the Church, has grown from a sullen, withdrawn child to a confident doctor; and returns to the home for his year of service.
